Residential Lighting Design
Renovation and Retrofit Lighting Design
A renovation opens some ceilings and not others. The lighting has to work as one composition across both — and it is usually solved by matching whatever is already there.
We design what the renovated space should feel like, then route it through the construction you actually have — joists, closed ceilings, existing circuits — so new and old read as one house.
The work
What we actually do.
Decide what each space should feel like and which surfaces deserve light — before fixtures.
Develop the layout against real construction: joists, ducts, ceiling depths, insulation.
Resolve the new-to-existing boundary so colour, aperture, and trim read as one house.
Specify fixtures and controls, review the electrical plan, and stay through aiming.
How this differs
Not what your electrician or showroom provides.
Remodels default to matching the existing house. We treat the renovated area as a design problem while keeping it coherent with what stays.
Questions
Common questions.
Before electrical rough-in — earlier if possible. Before ceilings close, everything is adjustable. After, we work with optics, trims, dimming, and aiming. There is useful work at every stage, including in a finished house.
Yes, as part of a project — facades, entries, and coordination with landscape lighting. How the house reads from the street is part of the same composition.
